Matthew 15:18. The Bible says that self-control starts with the heart. Matthew 15:18-20 says, "Those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man...". We can come up with all types of excuses why we do bad things, but it all comes down to what is inside of us. If heart our is not right, evil thoughts will proceed out of it.

Proverbs 20:17. All scams include an enticement for someone to fall for the scam. Without an enticement, no one would fall for a scam. Many times scams are so obvious. Scams always start with an enticement of free money, free vacations, wealth, and power, but they are vague or do not mention specifically how you will get the objects of your desire. This has all the markings of a scam. A scam is basically where someone calls evil good. Our human nature is blinded by lies and scams that offer an enticement.

Proverbs 5:4 The Bible tells us that adultery starts off sweet, but ends in bitter consequences. The act of adultery is the biggest scam that we and our flesh will play on ourselves. The short-term pleasures of adultery will tempt us into thinking that it will be the greatest thing to do. Both partners will enter into an adulterous relationship purposely thinking of only the initial pleasure and none of the consequences. In our heart of hearts we know that adultery will not end well for either party.
