The Devil is a Distracter and Not a Worthy Opponent in Spiritual Warfare

The Devil, The Father of Lies

The Devil's Only Weapon in Spiritual Warfare is Trickery

The devil has no capability to do us direct harm. He can only do us harm by trickery. In Genesis 3:1 it says, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field…". In the Garden of Eden the Devil did no direct harm to Adam and Eve. All he did was use his craftiness to confuse and tempt Adam and Eve to disobey God. Adam and Eve were not forced by the Devil to eat of the fruit. It was his craftiness that led them to sin. In Genesis 3:4, the devil only said, "…Ye shall not surely die", but in fact Adam and Eve would experience death if they ate of the tree. The devil in no way forced Adam and Eve to do anything. It was only through the Devil being subtle and changing the word of God that Adam and Eve fell defeated in sin.

GENESIS 3 BIBLE SCRIPTURE Genesis 3:1, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"

Resistance Brings Defeat to The Devil In Spiritual Warfare

Victory in spiritual warfare comes from us submitting to God. If we totally surrender to God and put our faith in Him, we will have the spiritual power to resist the devil. We only have to resist the devil to defeat him. Once the devil sees that his craftiness and lies have no effect on us, he will flee from us (James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you").

JAMES 4 BIBLE SCRIPTURE James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Perseverance Is The Only Spiritual Warfare Weapon Required Against the Devil

Ephesians 6:11. By us putting on the whole armor of God, we can persevere through any lie, temptation, and deceit that the devil may throw at us (Ephesians 6:10-11, "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil"). If we come in contact with a known liar in our every day life, how do we react to them? Most people would avoid a known liar and would definitely not strike up a conversation with someone that constantly lies. This is how we need to treat the devil as he is the father of lies (John 8:44, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it").

EPHESIANS 6 BIBLE SCRIPTURE Ephesians 6:11, "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
