Mercy
Ministering to the World Without Being Of the World
Paul's ministry in Athens illustrates how to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world but not be of the world. Paul arrived in Athens, a city of great learning. The citizens of this city knew many things, but they did not know Christ. Paul began to experience their culture, but he continued to value God above anything that he experienced or learned in Athens.
Two Moravians Show the Compassion of Christ
The illustration of The Compassion of the Two Moravians provides us an example of the compassion that Christ has for us. In the story, the two Moravians sold themselves into slavery so that they could preach the gospel to the slaves. This is the same compassion that Jesus has for us in that He came to us in human form so that He could give us the good news that we may be saved.
Judge Not Lest You Be Judged
Bible Summary. God did not put us on this Earth to judge people. That is His job. God will judge all of us one day. He judges us by the faith that we have in Him. If we judge others harshly, God will judge us harshly. If we judge other people with love and compassion, God will be merciful when He judges us. God is who determines what is right and what is wrong. God judges our heart.
Forgive, Condemn Not, Judge Not Lest You Be Judged
Luke 6:37. Jesus tells us to “Judge not lest you be judged”. He is telling us not to rely on ourselves and our own judgment. Without God (without Jesus) our human nature (our sin nature) is inclined to judge people, to condemn people, to hate people, and so on. Jesus is advising us to change our heart. Instead of our heart being a selfish heart, it needs to be a loving heart.
God is My Judge Who Will Judge the Righteous and the Wicked
Ecclesiastes 3:17. In the book Ecclesiastes, Solomon said to himself that God is my judge; He is everyone's judge, both the righteous and the wicked (Ecclesiastes 3:17, "I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work". In God's timing all of us will be judged for our disobedient acts against God.
God's Goodness Was the Key to Abraham's Success
Genesis 12:2. A key to success in life is just understanding how good God can be to us. God loves us so much and He desires to bless us. All He wants from us is to love Him back. This is what Abraham did. He loved God, he was obedient to God, and he believed in God. It was God's love, God goodness, and God's grace that were key to Abraham's success. God made him a great nation.
Bible Definition of Compassion
Bible Summary. God's character embodies the definition of compassion. God desires to free others from their suffering. He has compassion for people that are lost. He has compassion for people that repent and have a true desire to turn away from their sin. God has compassion for people that have faith in Him.
Christian Kindness Rooted in Love and Mercy
Jesus tells us that “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”. God has created mankind to love one another. Christian kindness is a way of life. No matter how bad the person, no matter how hateful the person, no matter how repulsive the person, we are to show Christian kindness to them just as God has shown His kindness to us. God's kindness and love toward mankind is our best example of Christian kindness. He shows us mercy and kindness because of his love for us, and not because of our works or that we may be pretty good people.
What the Bible Tell Us About Human Kindness
Bible Summary. Human kindness and mercy are much the same in terms of definitions. Mercy is defined in the dictionary as “compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power; compassion, pity, or benevolence:”. To have this type of human kindness we must free ourselves from vanity, strife, and envy.
What the Bible Says About the Brethren
The Bible is very clear on what a brethren is and what a brethren is not. A brethren is a Christian that has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. A brethren is no more special than anyone else. Yes, a Christian brethren should treat another brethren with brotherly kindness, but brethren should also treat all people with brotherly kindness. Being a brethren is not being part of an exclusive club. Being a brethren is part of being an inclusive club where brethren do everything possible to have everyone become a brethren.
Christian Kindness is Not Just an Act, But a Way of Life
Isaiah 54:10. God is a God of kindness and mercy. He shows us how we should show Christian kindness to others. God's kindness is eternal. It is not something He bestows on to mankind on special occasions. His kindness and mercy is offered to us always. It does not matter how much we are disobedient to God, how hateful we are to God, or how little faith we have in God.
Human Kindness is All About Having Mercy Toward Others
2 Samuel 9:3. Human kindness is closely linked to the concept of mercy. Mercy is defined in the dictionary as “compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power; compassion, pity, or benevolence:”. To have mercy on someone is at the heart of human kindness.
Purpose of Government – Based on the Ten Commandments
Exodus 20:6. The purpose of Government is to encourage people to do right. What is right and what is wrong is an age-old question, but from a Christian perspective what is right is embodied in the Ten Commandments. Specifically, God gave the Ten Commandments to the Israelites as a basis for them to live right.
Show Christian Patience To Others As Christ Has Shown Patience To Us
Colossians 3:12. Jesus showed us how to have Christian patience while He was on this Earth. Instead of us getting impatience with others, Jesus teaches us to forgive others just as He has forgiven us.
God Have Mercy on Me a Sinner
Luke 18:13. In the parable of the Pharisee and the publican, the publican cried out to God saying, “have mercy on me a sinner” (Luke 18:13). The publican had true knowledge of God. He knew that he had fallen short of God's glory and that he was a sinner (this is the same situation for all of mankind – none of us are perfect by ourselves).
