How did Jesus change our relationship with God? Do I have a sin nature? How do I become a new man (or woman) in Christ? Why is it so important?
Romans 6:6. All of us must understand that by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we become dead to sin and the new man is alive in us. This is the start of our new relationship with God and the sanctification process of the new man in us. We are no longer servants of sin.
The Old Man Crucified

ROMANS 6 BIBLE SCRIPTURE Romans 6:6, "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."
The Old Man Is Crucified.
The old man represents our servant-like relationship with sin. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we become dead to sin. We are a new man.
The Old Man, Our Sin Nature.
If Jesus Christ had never died for our sins, we could not have a relationship with God. This is because of the sin nature that we inherited from Adam and Eve. This old-man nature is the same sin nature that disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden by eating of the forbidden fruit. The consequence of this sin nature resulted in Adam and Eve (all of mankind) being separated from God. With Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross, it became possible that our relationship with God could be restored. We are able to re-establish a relationship with God. The same exact relationship that Adam and Eve had with God prior to the original sin. By accepting our new relationship with God, we are a new man. The old man is crucified and destroyed.
New Man In Christ.
The new man represents our loving relationship with God. Our servitude with sin is gone and replaced with a new profession, Christianity. Just as with any profession we cannot prosper if we do not practice and work at our Christian profession. God hates sin and He cannot have a relationship with anyone that is a servant to sin. Crucifying our old man with Jesus Christ starts our sanctification process as the new man in Christ.
