Christian Virtues Are To Be Meditated On Continually
Philippians 4:8. A person having Christian Virtues must meditate on these virtues and practice these virtues every day. Philippians 4:8 say to think on “... whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; ...”. By us meditating on Christian virtues we will start practicing them. If we meditate on God's truth in the Bible, we will start acting on His truths.
Christian Virtues – The Three Theological Virtues
1 Corinthians 13:13. Christian theologians have traditionally identified faith, hope, and charity (love) as the three Christian virtues. This is based on 1 Corinthians 13:13, “1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity”. Faith, hope, and love are key Christian virtues today as they have been throughout the history of Christianity. Christian virtue faith means steadfastness in belief that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour. Christian virtue hope is the expectation, the trust, that God's promises are true.
Trust and Love - Trust God First
Micah 7:5. In human relationships, trust and love do not go together. This is evident from Department of Justice crime statistics where a large number of violent crimes are committed against love ones. For example, two-thirds of children under five are murdered by a close relative. 74 percent of women are robbed by someone they know. The Bible is clear; trust God and not man.
Spiritual Perfection Is Love, Without Fear
1 John 4:18. From a Christian perspective, spiritual perfection is based on love - love of God and love of people. This perfect love is "agape" love and is defined as unmerited favor. This Godly love casts out the fear in our lives and leads the way for us to be spiritually perfect. God was the first to show us this perfect type of love and He desires for us to show this perfect love to Him and others. God is love and He is perfect. He desires for us to be the same way, too. If we truly believe that he loves us, we can confidently love others in this perfect love.
Spiritual Perfection Is God Dwelling in Us
1 John 4:12. Most people have an inner desire to be perfect. The only true way to be spiritually perfect is to have God in you. God is the only one that is truly perfect. He can make you perfect, if you will allow Him to dwell in you. We have to allow Him to be the center of our lives. If we follow His commandments of loving Him and loving others, God will come to dwell in us perfectly. This is the only way for spiritual perfection in our lives - by God dwelling in us. God is love. God is perfect.
A Mother's Love is a Selfless Love
1 King 3:26. A mother's love can never be separated from her children. When King Solomon had to decide which mother was the mother of a child, he used his wisdom of a mother's selfless love to decide who was the mother of the child. When both mothers claimed the child, Solomon decreed that the child be cut into two and divided between the two women. He knew that the true mother would never agree to her child being harmed.
God's Divine Nature Is Love
1 John 4:8. Another side of God’s divine nature is that He is a God of love. "God is love" (1 John 4:8). This love is an "agape" love, an unmerited favor toward someone. God has “agape” love for all of us, for all of mankind. He loves us and desires to provide for us (Psalms 145:16, “Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing”). Even with us falling so short of His glory because of our sin nature, He still loves us.
Discovering God’s Divine Nature
1 John 4:17, God’s nature can be summed up in two words: love and righteousness. As followers of Jesus, we are here to discover God's love and righteousness. We discover God through prayer, fasting, study, and living a life in fellowship with God. Through us seeking God continuously, His righteousness and love is made perfect in us.
God's Awesome Mysteries
Colossians 2:2. God's divine nature is a complete mystery to most of us. Even people who have studied God’s nature for years will still refer to the mysteries of God. The primary reason that it is difficult to understand God's divine nature is that He is just so much larger than us. He is all knowing, all-powerful, and all present. He does not expect you to know everything about Him. He just wants your "acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ" (Colossians 2:2).
What Is The Love That God Desires From Us?
1 John 2:5. By us accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, God gives us the spirit of power, love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.") He has given us a part of him. He asks for us to grow in love of Him and our fellow man.
