Face Death From God's Perspective
Matthew 10:28. Death is not something we desire to talk about, much less face. From a Christian perspective death is something we need to fully understand and discussed in order to face death from the right perspective. We need to know what it is and what it is not. Most people are scared of death. Death and decay are so commonplace that no one examines what it is really like to face death until it is upon them. We must examine what it is like to face death from God's perspective. From God perspective it is not physical death that we should be fearful of facing. Physical death only kills the body and not the soul. It is spiritual and eternal death that causes deadly harm to our soul.
Three Kinds of Death in Scripture
The Bible talks about three kinds of death: a physical death, a spiritual death, and an eternal death.
MATTHEW 10 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 10:28, "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
Face Death That Is Physical
James 2:26. Physical death is the separation of the inner man from the body (James 2:26, "For as the body without the spirit is dead ...").This is the death that we are most familiar with as we see it daily in our daily lives. This is the death we see all around us. We see people grow old. We see the leaves turn brown and die. We see thing rust. We even see our own mortality with our own physical death. We should not put the greatest emphasis on this physical death as it only affects our body and not our soul. We, our soul, keeps living after physical death. Many of us are so focused on the physical death, but it is the soul that needs to be cared for first. We should not be scared of physical death. Physical death does not kill the soul and it does not separate us from God (Matthew 10:28, "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.").
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: James 2:26, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."
Face Death That Is Spiritual
Ephesians 2:1. Spiritual death is separation from God because of our sin. From a Christian perspective this is a death experience that we face everyday. Mankind suffered a spiritual death when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. Starting with that first sin, mankind inherited and took on the sin nature of the first man, Adam. When we are in sin we also suffer a spiritual death - a separation from God (1 Timothy 5:6, "But she that liveth in pleasure is dead..."; Ephesians 2:1, "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;"). Spiritual death is not a permanent situation. Jesus has given us a way to reconcile with God by repenting and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. There is hope and eternal life with Jesus Christ. As many people have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord, they are spiritually dead, separated from God. There are many people that are facing temptation and are in danger of spiritual death. These are the situations we need to focus on as Christians. Through prayer, intersession, and speaking God's truth, these situations can be overcome. All we need to do is repent and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. If we follow the way of Jesus, sin and death are defeated and we do not have to go through a spiritual death any more.
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 2:1, "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;"
Face Death That Is Eternal
Revelations 21:8. The third type of death is Eternal death. Eternal death is eternal separation from God. If we have not accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will face death that is eternal on Judgment Day. Eternal death happens because man chooses sin (disobedience to God), and thus, we choose to be separated from God. Separation from God first starts off as spiritual death, but it will eventually turn to eternal death. This is the death we never want to face. We need to believe what the Bible says about eternal death. Eternal death will come to us, if we do not believe in Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:28, "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."; Revelations 21:8, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."). This is the death that we need to believe is real, but do not want to go there. We can spend countless hours worrying about physical death, but physical death is secondary to eternal death. Eternal death is real and must be talked about in order to avoid it. If we do not get this truth out, billions and billions of people will face this most awful death, eternal separation from God. Through man's sin nature we all deserve eternal death. God is a righteous God that must punish sin with death, eternal separation from Him. Thanks to Jesus Christ and His work on the cross, we do not have to face this eternal death. Just repent and come to Jesus. You will have eternal life and never face eternal death.
REVELATION 21 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Revelations 21:8, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
