BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 5:20, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Define Deceit – The Controlling Influence of Deceit

Genesis 3:4. When we define deceit it includes telling a lie to someone to get something. This is what happened when Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden concerning eating the fruit of the tree. The serpent brought doubt to Eve in saying, “Ye shall not surely die:” even though God had told Adam and Eve clearly in Genesis 2:17 that “…thou shalt surely die.” In this case the serpent deceived Eve. Satan did this in order to make Adam and Eve followers of him (Genesis 3:3-4, “But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: “).

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 3:4, "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:"

Define Deceit - Deceit Suppresses Truth

Hosea 7:13. When we define deceit another aspect is it suppresses the truth. In Christianity deceit results in people not even knowing they need salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ. Through deceit we either do not know God or we have a corrupt view of God. Because of deceit we stay followers of Satan headed for destruction. Through deceit we become haters of God instead of lovers of God. We let Satan keep us in bondage even though Jesus Christ has already done everything necessary on the cross for all of us to be redeemed (Hosea 7:13, “Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me”).

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Hosea 7:13, “Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.”

Define Deceit – Deceit Is Only A Temporary Condition

Psalms 72:14. When we define deceit we must remember that deceit is not a permanent condition. A person is set free from a particular deceit once he knows the truth (John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”). When we do not know the truth we are in bondage, but we do not have to stay in bondage. By knowing the truth all the destructive aspects of deceit become null and void. People living in deceit are headed for destruction only if they do not know or accept the truth. From a Christian perspective, we stay in sin and its terrible consequences because of deceit. We believe that this temporal life is all that there is and that only death, the ultimate consequence of sin, is all that is before us. The effects of sin, to include spiritual death, only need to be temporary. Truth and redemption offered by Jesus Christ are eternal  (Psalms 72:14, “He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.”)

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Psalms 72:14, “He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.”
