Christians Believe That Only Jesus Can Save Them
Romans 10:13.The central Christian belief is that you believe in Jesus Christ. Christians believe that as a sinner and imperfect person you are separated from God and only through Jesus can you be saved from eternal death and be reconciled back to God. Only through calling upon the name of Jesus Christ can you be saved. If you do not believe in Jesus Christ, you cannot be saved or reconciled to a righteous God. If you have not heard about the salvation that Jesus offers, you cannot believe and call out for His salvation. Christians believe that only through Jesus Christ can they be saved from eternal death (Romans 10:13-14 , “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”).
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Romans 10:13 , “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Christians Believe And Repent
Matthew 21:32. Repentance is a key belief of Christians. The Bible teaches about God's righteousness and of His love. Though God loves us He is a righteous God. He cannot be in the presence of our sin because of His righteousness. Only through Jesus and our repentance can we achieve righteousness and be in fellowship with God. We cannot reconcile ourselves back to God by becoming righteous by our own works. We cannot work our way into Heaven and God's good grace. We must first understand and acknowledge our sins and imperfections as a first step of repentance and reconciliation to God. We must repent and acknowledge to God that we can only be purged of our sins by accepting Jesus Christ's salvation. Only through Jesus and God's grace can we become righteous and be in fellowship with God (Matthew 21:32, “For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.”).
MATTHEW 21 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 21:32, “For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.”
Christians Believe That There Is Eternal Life
Romans 6:23. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ shall have eternal life (John 3:15, “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” ). Christians believe in eternal life. God has given the gift of eternal life to all believers. He has given this gift to us because He loves us and wants us to be with Him always. Through Jesus Christ, God has delivered us from sin and its wages of death. Jesus' act on the cross has delivered us from sin and death and has given us eternal life to ones that believe in Him as their savior (Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”).
ROMANS 6 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Christians Believe In Divine Power
John 20:25. As part of our faith, Christian believe that God is all powerful and can operate outside of our five senses. God is a supernatural God. Some of us such as Thomas, the doubting disciple, must have much evidence of God's divine power. Thomas had to "put his... finger into the print of the nails,..." before he believed (John 20:25 - "The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe").
In Moses time God had to demonstrate divine power before the Jews would believe (Exodus 4:1 - "And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee").
Today God demonstrates His divine power in many ways. One way is through healing. God sends us out to tell others about the kingdom of God and to heal the sick (Luke 9:2 - "And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick").
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: John 20:25 - "The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe".
Christians Believe Versus Fear
Mark 5:36. We tend to fear things that we cannot control or that are outside our five senses. For Christians we may fear God, but we believe in His promises first. Jesus is the Lord of peace (2 Thessalonians 3:16, "Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all"). Through His act on the cross Christians can have inner peace and assurance of eternal life. We do not have to fear anything because we have God on our side. God does not desire for us to be controlled by fear. He desires for us to believe in His promises (Mark 5:36, "As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe").
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Mark 5:36, "As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe."
Christians Believe More Than There Is Just A God
James 2:19. Christians believe that there is one, true God and they worship one God. History demonstrates that all of mankind has a predisposition to worship a God or gods. Prior to the birth of the Jewish nation, many people worshiped many gods. Even with the birth of Christianity, people continued to worship many gods. Today with the spread of humanism and materialism, people continue to worship many "gods" or idols. In this case, the "gods" are physical objects (materialism) or people themselves (humanism). With humanism we basically worship mankind and with materialism we worship material possessions. With these philosophies we can worship a car one day and next be glorying in our own accomplishments or in someone else's skills. With Christianity there is only one God. Christians put the one and true God above all things, ideas, experiences, and persons at all times and in all circumstances.
Now at the same time, believing in one God does not make you a Christian. It is only one of the first steps. The Devil believes there is one God as well (James 2:19, "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble"). This scripture should be a wake-up call to many people that say they believe in God and think that they are a Christian. Jesus teaches us that there is more to being a Christian than just saying you believe in God. Find out more about What Christians believe.
