Christian Spiritual Warfare: Put on the Mind of Christ Versus Following Our Imagination

2 Corinthians 10:5. In warfare, military objectives usually focus on the destruction of an enemy or the gaining of a territory. The objective of Christian spiritual warfare is territorial in nature. The territory in this case is the human mind. Christian spiritual warfare is a spiritual battle to conquer the human mind in order to bring it into the obedience of Christ [2 Corinthians 10:4-5, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;").

It is usually very easy to let bad thoughts enter our mind that do not line up with the Word - the knowledge of God. Our imagination will then get the better of us and our mind will soon wander away from God. Our imagination will soon lead to sin and disobedience to God. Our mind is the battlefield of spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is a battle for our mind between our evil imaginations and the glorious knowledge of God. The overall objective of spiritual warfare is to "have the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16).

2 CORINTHIANS 10 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 10:5, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"

Christian Spiritual Warfare Is a Fight of Faith

1 Timothy 6:12. Christian spiritual warfare is all about faith. Christian faith and hope gives us the power to fight in order to have the mind of Christ and lay hold of eternal life (1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses"). Faith's power keeps us and helps us to endure anything that comes against us and our salvation (1 Peter 1:5, "Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time").

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses"

Christian Spiritual Warfare is One of Endurance

Hebrews 10:7. Christian spiritual warfare does not end when someone accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is only the beginning of spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare then becomes a battle of endurance. Yes we have the assurance of salvation, but we will now have to endure a great fight of afflictions (Hebrews 10:32, "But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;"). The devil, our own flesh, and the world will continue to deceive and tempt us to give up the mind of Christ. By us having faith and surrendering completely to God's will, where we replace our weakness with His strength, we can endure anything (Hebrews 11:33-34, "Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens").

HEWBREWS 10 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 10:32, "But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;"

Christian Spiritual Warfare Focuses On Christ and Not The Destruction of the Enemy

Psalms 6:4. Again Christian spiritual warfare focuses totally on conquering the human mind in order for us to take on and keep the mind of Christ. Spiritual warfare does not focus on the destruction of the devil, the flesh, enemies, the world, or death. These things are already defeated. These things can only have dominion over us if we let them. We only need to protect ourselves from these distractions. The real goal of Christian spiritual warfare is to take on the mind of Christ. We do this by faith, prayer, knowing God's Word, and intersession. In Psalms 6 David shows us how to conduct spiritual warfare. We do it through prayer and reminding God of His promises (Psalm 6:4 "Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake"). We do it by intersession. Yes, even interceding for our enemies. They need salvation as much as we do (Psalms 6:8-10, "Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly").

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Psalms 6:4 "Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake."
