John 5:24. A person becomes a born again Christian when they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. You accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior by hearing His word and accepting that you are a sinner, and you have been disobedient of God. As sinners we need salvation to save us from God’s wrath toward our sin and disobedience of Him. Because God also loves us, Jesus came to this Earth as a God-man to take the punishment for our sins and save us. He is the only one that can save us and that only through Him can we have everlasting life with God (John 5:24, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life").

John 3:6. When you are born again the spirit in you changes. Before becoming a born again Christian your flesh led the spirit in you. You were dominated by fleshly desires and your purpose was to fulfill the lusts of your flesh. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God’s Holy Spirit enters you changing your purpose and equipping you to be righteous. If you continue to yield to God’s Holy Spirit He will lead you down the path of righteousness. You may not know the path you are taking, but the Holy Spirit will lead you, counsel you, and equip you to follow God versus the works of the flesh (John 3:6, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”).

1 John 3:9. When you are born again, you have God in you in the form of the Holy Spirit. As God cannot be in the presence of sin and disobedience, sin is destroyed in you when the Holy Spirit is in you. As a born again Christian, you have God’s seed in you that provides every thing you need not to sin any more. For you to remain born again, you commit no more sin in your life. The Holy Spirit will keep you from sin, if you let Him (1 John 3:9, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God”).
