Why Not Take the Lord's Name in Vain?

Exodus 20:7. Below are some reasons not to take the Lord's name in vain.

Lazy Thinking. Swearing is not uncommon to include taking the Lord's name in vain. I use to swear, but stopped even before I became a Christian. While I was in the Army, I heard an audio recording of myself where every other word was a swear word to include taking the Lord's name in vain. After hearing that audio recording of myself, I stopped swearing. I saw that swearing was my way of getting attention instead of having to think through how to effectively get my point across to people.

Trust and Love - Trust God First

Micah 7:5. In human relationships, trust and love do not go together. This is evident from Department of Justice crime statistics where a large number of violent crimes are committed against love ones. For example, two-thirds of children under five are murdered by a close relative. 74 percent of women are robbed by someone they know. The Bible is clear; trust God and not man.

Resistance Brings Defeat to The Devil In Spiritual Warfare

Victory in spiritual warfare comes from us submitting to God. If we totally surrender to God and put our faith in Him, we will have the spiritual power to resist the devil. We only have to resist the devil to defeat him. Once the devil sees that his craftiness and lies have no effect on us, he will flee from us (James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you").

JAMES 4 BIBLE SCRIPTURE James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

God Is Not In The Thoughts Of A Self-Centered Person

Psalms 10:4. People that are self-centered are absorbed in themselves. They have no room in their heart for God. Self-centered persons are under strong delusions that they can handle ever situation. They are too ignorant or prideful to seek God for their needs and for His wisdom. God is not in the thoughts of a self-centered person (Psalms 10:4, "The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.").

Fixing A Broken Relationship Through Self-Control and Resisting The Devil

James 4:7. God has given us the power and self-control to resist the devil and his temptations. All we have to do is exercise that self-control when fixing a broken relationship with God. If we resist the devil, He will flee from us. The only self-control we really need to fight temptation is the self-control to submit to God everyday. If we draw close to God, He will draw close to us. He will cleanse us of all of our sins if we submit to Him (James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Dealing With Adultery – Flee From It

1 Corinthians 6:18. Every one of us is tempted by adultery at some point in our lives. Our flesh when left to its own devices will commit adultery. You must realize that the only way to deal with adultery is to flee from it. Adultery starts in the heart, and must be conquered within our heart. When we come in contact with adulterous thoughts we must realize how much God hates adultery. We must realize that if we are joined in an adulterous relationship we cannot be joined in a relationship with God.
