The Causes of Anger
Bible Summary. There are many causes of anger. When we get angry, we need to examine why are we getting angry and is anger the right response. For example, self-righteous anger is a terrible thing to God. This cause of anger may feel good, but it will lead us far from God. Another cause of anger is when we are threatened. Anger may be a good defense, but we need to ask what God would have us do in a given situation. People and things that annoy us can be causes of anger, but is anger the right reaction to someone or something that annoys us? When people frustrate us, we need to step back, re-examine our purpose, and act in a manner that lines up with God's Word. See below for Bible commentary and scriptures on the causes for anger.

Jealousy and Self-Righteousness Are Not Good Causes for Anger.
Self-righteous anger is a terrible thing to God. This anger may feel good, but it will lead us far from God. It is not our job to judge in regard to what is fair in life and who should be punished for their sin. When we rise up in self-righteous anger, we are really upsurging God's authority and are in an unrepentant state that is far from God. Key Bible Verse: Luke 15:28 tells of the prodigal son's brother who became angry with self-righteousness and jealousy.
Threats Against Us or Our Livelihood Is a Cause of Anger.
When we become angry, we need to be honest with ourselves on what is the true cause of anger. Yes our livelihood may be threatened, but the real question is what would God have us to do. If our livelihood does not line up with the word of God, we need to seek God on what we should be doing. Key Bible Verse: Acts 19:28 tells us of the idol makers that became angry because their livelihood was threatened by Paul's preaching.
Annoyance: A Cause of Anger or An Inconvenient Truth?
People and things that annoy us can be causes of anger, but is anger the right reaction to someone or something that annoys you? Many times an annoyance is God trying to tell us something. This annoyance may be an inconvenient truth, but it is the truth. Instead of anger, an annoyance may be a cause for us to be humbled and convicted to turn toward God's truth. Key Bible Verse: Luke 4:28 tells us of the Jews that became annoyed and angry with Jesus' preaching in the synagogue.
Dealing With Anger Caused By People That Frustrate Us.
Anger energizes us to action, but in most cases the purpose of our anger is wrong and it can cause us to do very bad things. When people frustrate us, we need to step back, re-examine our purpose, and act in a manner that lines up with God's Word. Key Bible Verse: Esther 3:5 tells us how Haman's frustration with Mordecai turned to blinding wrath.
