Nature versus Nurture - Our environment does not determine our fate
Romans 8:13. What drives our daily actions? Is it our environment or situation that we are in or is it because of who we are and what we have done in the past? These types of questions when talking about our nature versus nurture are narrow-minded because they omit God from the discussion. Thanks to Jesus we do not need to be governed by our situation or be slaves to our past. By accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters our heart. He gives us the power to follow Jesus no matter what our situation. We no longer need to be governed by our environment (our five senses, our flesh). We no longer need to lead a life of sin in disobedience against God that will only result in death. With the Holy Spirit in us, He inhibits (kills) the impulses for us to continue to live after the flesh. We are no longer governed by our environment (Romans 8:12-13, “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”).
ROMANS 8 BIBLE SCRIPTURE Romans 8:13, “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”
