What the Bible Says When You Lack Diligence in Your Faith

Matthew 25:12, The Bible's Parable of the Ten Virgins warns us of the dangers of not being diligent in our faith. In the parable, the virgins had the responsibility of greeting and lighting the way for the bridegroom when he arrived at night. Five of the virgins were wise because they were diligent in bringing extra oil to keep their lamps lit. Five of the virgins were foolish because they were not diligent in bringing extra oil to keep their lamp lit. When the bridegroom arrive it was time for the ten virgins to act, but five of the virgins had gone to the market to buy more oil for their lamps. On the other hand, the five wise virgins were fulfilling their calling and they greeted the bridegroom. They had also lighted the way for bridegroom using their lamps. They now went inside and locked the door. When the foolish virgins came back from the market, they found the door locked and they began to knock on the door. The Lord answered their knocks. In Matthew 25:11 He said, “... Verily I say unto you, I know you not”.

When you think about it, the bridegroom truly did not recognize the five foolish virgins because they were not in place when he arrived for the marriage. When the bridegroom arrived He was only greeted by the five wise virgins. He had no knowledge of the five foolish virgins because they had not been present to fulfill their purpose as greeters and lighting the way for the bridegroom. In thinking about this parable we all need to ask ourselves, what will God say when we meet Him in Heaven? Will He say that He does not know us because we were not diligent in our faith? How different are we from the five foolish virgins that did not fulfill their responsibilities?
