John 6:27. Most of us think of work success in terms of salary increase, promotion, and recognition. From a Biblical perspective God does want to see us blessed materially, but He desires for us to focus on spiritual things first. True work success is measured by our increase in the eternal things of God. John 6:27 says, “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed”.
Eternal things are things like truth, righteousness, honesty, and love. In our day-to-day work, these are the things that God desires for to put into our work as well as work on to grow closer to God. These are the things that Jesus has told us about and has given to us. God's plan is for us to labor in these eternal things and trust in Him for our material and spiritual success . True work success is laboring in God's righteousness, His love, and truth. It is these eternal things that will endure and enable us to have a relationship with God. It is these eternal things, and not material things, that will enable us to achieve true work success in anything that we do.
