Woe Unto Them That Call Evil Good

Isaiah 5:20. It is so tempting to call something evil good, but in the end it will end in calamity and God's judgment. Isaiah 5:20 says, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" We must seek God's truth in everything we do. When you find true goodness, proclaim that it is good. When you find evil, proclaim that it is evil.

If a sales person sells an inferior product at a premium price, they get a nice sales commission. This an example of calling something evil (bad) good. If you deny the existence of God, you can do what you want and fulfill all your own selfish desires. This an example of calling something good (God) evil (non-existent). If you tell a prospective employer that you have a college diploma and you do not, you may get hired at a good salary. This is an example of where you swap darkness (no diploma) for light (having a diploma). If a boy persuades a girl to have sex with him before marriage, they then both receive a short, fleshly delight. This is an example of exchanging bitter for sweet. Sex outside of marriage is a sin against God versus sex inside of marriage is a blessing of God. If a person speaks untruths about someone that has hurt them, then they may feel better by getting their revenge. When you lie about a person, this is an example of putting sweet for bitter.

From a Christian perspective calling evil good is a sin against God. It is lying. It goes against the commandment "Not bear false witness against thy neighbour:". It is perverting the truth, God's truth. Without repentance, God will judge us for calling evil good.
